I’m in PA where we were subjected to wall-to-wall vicious trans hate ads for months. MONTHS! And the Rs -just-squeaked out a victory. It is so bizarre to me how critics of Dems/Harris describe this “woke” campaign that didn’t actually happen. (And might have actually been successful if it had.) Versus an all out assault on human rights on the other side which worked only barely —and yet analysts and media tend to treat it like the landslide/mandate mythology is real. I’m so glad to read analysis like this, in part because it makes me feel a little less gaslit about what literally just happened.
Kat’s eye-roll at Sciutto’s mention of Democrats having to move away from the “progressive or woke” approach said it all. Kat would be a tremendous asset to Congress which is why I donated to her campaign when she first announced. Women like her, AOC, Jasmine Crockett, and Mallory McMorrow (whose campaign I donated to yesterday) are the future of the progressive movement!!
I'm sorry, but there must be only ONE reason for the winning or the losing, all the media tells me so. And that one reason is Trans people. Who am I to argue with the dartboard at CNN Headquarters that made this decision?
Her response was good, but I think it would be better for everyone to point out that one gotcha video clip from 5 years ago did not sink Harris, it's the fact that she was too scared to respond and explain fearlessly why standing up to the right wing fear mongering is necessary. No one had the leadership to defend trans rights as the right thing to do. Kat and others should not only make the case but contrast it with the current lack of leadership in the party to protect trans and other minorities. JB Pritzker is showing the way. And if any Dem wants to walk away from trans rights for pure political calculus, they should be called out loudly and shamed. If Kat can hone this message, it will have a big impact.
I gotta think that, being of Palestinian descent, Kat is acutely aware of what membership in a historically marginalized group looks like. Empathy goes a long way, after all.
Thanks for sharing. Just donated to her campaign.
Yes! Love to see it and hope we see more of this!

You won't be sorry! Kat is a brilliant commentator as well.

Yes, Kat! Don't capitulate to the right-wing framing on this issue! Well done!
Parker, I was a free subscriber but when I learned today you are trans I upgraded to paid! All support for the LGBTQ community is needed.

Trying to figure out who's human rights are rights worth defending will always be divisive.
Until Democrats figure this out, they will always be easily manipulated and they will never win.
Had been meaning to check out Kat's campaign since learning about her on Bluesky… this column prompted me to take action AND to donate.
