Just had to sub. They are absolute bastards. And lol at that reporter who initially engaged and then slinked back into their hole when met with their own garbage. This crap must be hard to report on but you do it so well. Much love. ❤️

I hope the fact that we have this recent history to compare GOP policy to means we won’t ultimately suffer the same fate as all those the nazis went after

We have long since reached a point where republicans holding any amount of power is a threat to our existence and our country as a whole

"LGBTQ advocates" because CNN can't understand "normal" people also being disgusted by this shit.

The policy is outrageous and CNN’s approach is reprehensible! Thanks for calling it out.

"First they came for..." yet again. Once they manage to convince The Public to agree with denying a group (T, in this case) any form of existence, then what is to stop them from going after other subsets of Humanity they don't like? "You're wrong for not eating pork like I do. You're wrong for not having cook-fires on certain days like I do. You're wrong for not eating meat on certain days like I do. Your imaginary Holy Days aren't on the same days as my real Holy Days so you're wrong..." etc etc. Ave Caesar, praise Zeus, Glory Be to King Gilgamesh. At least the Vogons made The End seem rather quick, just time for a couple pints rather than a couple (dozen) centuries.

Look, we're just putting these signs up in the bus about where people can sit to bring ourselves into compliance with the law. You wouldn't want us to violate the law, would you?

Thank you for your work.

I live in Australia but consume a fair amount of US news. It seems to me that supposed ‘neutral’ news organisations just don’t want to even engage with the battering that trans people are receiving across so many states.

At heart they don’t think we’re worthy of concern. They fail utterly to see that anti-trans legislation is just the start, and that failing to acknowledge and fight fascist tactics and fascist laws will only lead to more of the same for everyone further down the line.

And people will claim they ‘didn’t know’ because MSNBC, CNN, NYT and WaPo didn’t take it seriously.

Dear Lordy-Mama, when did a LEGISLATURE get to decide that gender is "understood as sex"? Gender started out as a grammatical category. It had no relation to the twiddly bits, unless you thought of a whole bunch of nouns and adjectives that required matching as having such bits. In the mid twentieth century feminists started using the word to DISTINGUISH "sex" from the social characteristics associated with it. Women of my generation (in grade school in the 50s) had to fight like hell to get people to recognize that playing with trains or dolls, or reading science fiction instead of movie magazines had zippo to do with what your bits looked like.

There needed to be a distinction, because it is hard to say with a straight face that wanting to play Little League Baseball was "sexually inappropriate." Using "sex" to describe culturally assigned roles and deplore them meant children who defied them were all little perverts. Should I have been tagged for treatment because I preferred "Childhood's End" to "Little House on the Prairie" (or for a boy, vice versa).

Fighting these constructs had nothing to do with whether I wanted to bear children or marry a man. I did both.

This is one of the most damaging of the new GOP "NewSpeak" words. "Communist" means evil person. "Woke" means being weak because you value empathy and social awareness. "Rioters" become "tourists."

A big question I have is, what about trans folks who go to Florida from out of state? Is my drivers license an act of fraud? The Nazi Germany comparison is dead on. It's exactly the same thing that's happening, albeit on a state by state basis here.

I don't know how you and Erin do this. It's hard on my mental health to read it; it must be awful to have to research and write about. Thank you so much for continuing to shine light on these dark practices.

Seems to be that one way to define "objectivity" is that you know nothing whatsoever about the issues involved and aren't interested in learning more. Like I could be counted on to "objectively" report in the Super Bowl because I have absolutely no interest in football.

More on CNN, staffers claiming they've got directives from management that skew the coverage towards Israel:

According to accounts from six CNN staffers in multiple newsrooms, and more than a dozen internal memos and emails obtained by the Guardian, daily news decisions are shaped by a flow of directives from the CNN headquarters in Atlanta that have set strict guidelines on coverage.

They include tight restrictions on quoting Hamas and reporting other Palestinian perspectives while Israel government statements are taken at face value. In addition, every story on the conflict must be cleared by the Jerusalem bureau before broadcast or publication.

“Many have been pushing for more content from Gaza to be alerted and aired. By the time these reports go through Jerusalem and make it to TV or the homepage, critical changes – from the introduction of imprecise language to an ignorance of crucial stories – ensure that nearly every report, no matter how damning, relieves Israel of wrongdoing.”
