Just wanted to say that I hope your recovery goes well and that I'm glad at least Aaron Blake understands the assignment. I really value people like you who can help cut through the grandstanding and tedium to help illuminate the bigger picture on political matters, and I wish you strength as you try to navigate a healthier path, one with some moments of genuine happiness thrown in along the way.
the people i talked to about it have all ended up with "i hope jack smith is the next attorney general". they all heard what he had to say, even through the flubbiness of it all, and took solace in his dignity and honor.
i hope we can elect a dem with spine enough to nominate him.
A lot of people had to mess up to put us where we are today, and I'm counting the nearly-80 million people who voted for this monster, but at the top of the list I'm putting Merrick Garland.
Outstanding analysis! I'm especially impressed that you can write so cooly and analytically after surgery -- I've been there, girl! (And tnx for the tip of the hat to Kimmel; for me he's the new Walter Cronkite.)
It's a month til the election, and THIS is what they're doing? Because if there's one thing American voters have said loud and clear it's they want more Yelling at Jack Smith.
Also, think of all the effort that went into this, poring over texts from Jack Smith's aides, making up the silly poster, and not once did anyone in the room say, "Hey, wait a minute, this is a super-secret conspiracy against the President of the United States and where they meet is at an Atlanta Hawks game? Not at a hotel room or the back room of a restaurant or in a parking garage, but at an Atlanta Hawks game?"
Jamelle Bouie's take on this is that it's proof they really are true believers, it's not an act, it's not theater, Schmitt isn't pretending to believe crazy shit because he thinks his voters want that, he really does believe the crazy shit. And like all conspiracy theorists they surround themselves with others from the same conspiracy-believing bubble, so no one in the room asked why this particular conspiracy would be conducted with meetings in full view of 30,000 people and a dozen TV cameras.
I'll bet it feels weird, but good, going through your social media and political junky changes. It is good to reset every now and again and I'm glad you're still sharing your POV with us.
I can't believe Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) isn't getting more "recognition" for this too. He was right there looking just as smug and stupid, even holding the sign.
