The ADL isn't here to defend Jewish people, generally, against antisemitism, they're here to defend Israel, specifically, against any and all criticism. ADL = IDF.

Not that it’s ever OK to knuckle under to these threats, but it’s gotten worse because the standard has slipped from “This lawsuit has no merit but we’ll cave because fighting it would bankrupt this organization” to “This lawsuit has no merit and we have the money to fight it but ehh—why spend it?”
And now Trump has added a new dimension—the filing of a frivolous lawsuit taking the place of soliciting a bribe.
The whole lawsuit thing is directly the fault of the judiciary. Courts never sanction the lawyers who file abusive and groundless lawsuits. Defendants don't even bother asking for Rule 11 sanctions because they know courts won't grant or uphold them.
The only way to stop this is massive sanctions. Sanctions big enough to discourage even the sleaziest of lawyers.
30ish years ago was when I first heard of the idea of a "loser pays" civil lawsuit system, IE, if you file a suit that you lose, you pay the other party's legal fees. The idea was that such a system would discourage people from filing nonsense lawsuits or trying to silence critics with litigation.
