Thank You, Pop Tarts Bowl Mascot
You've gotten more than a few chuckles out of me this morning.
This is it, folks. The end of 2023. And we’re going out with a post about Strawberry, the Pop-Tarts Bowl mascot, the one pure thing left in this world.
But real quick: here’s the part of the newsletter where I ask you to consider signing up for the free version if you’re new here and ask existing free subscribers to consider upgrading to the paid version.
And to commemorate the end of the year, I recorded a version of Auld Lang Syne that is as uncomfortable to listen to as the year was to live. Enjoy!
But yes, the Pop-Tart!
The whole thing felt like a throwback to some pre-hellscape time when something silly would happen (see: The Dress or the llamas, both from the same day), and the internet would turn that into a whole thing for a few days. Remember Left Shark? That was way back in 2015!
Accepting his fate, Strawberry transcended this life and hurdled into the next. Its toasted body popped out of the bottom of the toaster, and it was eaten by the victorious Kansas State University football team.
2023 has been a challenge. 2024 will no doubt be one, as well.
In this year and the next, I hope to be able to find humor in small things. This dumb mascot will be a reminder to try.
Have a good weekend. If you’re doing anything for New Year’s Eve, please stay safe out there. I will be back next week.
