This is a hugely important essay. The public MUST learn who Bari Weiss is! I hope @Katie Couric @Dan Rather @Jim Acosta @Anand Giridharadas @Anthony Davis 🎙️ @Timothy Snyder @Ruth Ben-Ghiat @Heather Cox Richardson @THE LEFT HOOK with Wajahat Ali @Mehdi Hasan @Jay Rosen @Margaret Sullivan all share your essay, adding their own commentary. Thank you for doing the research needed to tell this story!

It’s not clear how much of this was actually directed from Ellison, how much comes from Weiss’s natural Republican/fascist inclinations, and how much comes from the fact that, for all her journalism-adjacent credits, she’s never worked a day as an actual journalist in her life. I’m sure it’s a combination of these things.

Thank you for the additional context and information. I really enjoy reading your reporting (even if I hate some of the things you have to report about).

I know this isn't the point of this piece, but we have to stop referring to CECOT as a mega prison. It's a concentration camp, replete with all of the negative connotations that come with that designation.

as you are I am sure aware, about 13 minutes of this got broadcast on Global in Canada. CBS is madly trying to take it down, but it's all over the internet. See EG https://www.muellershewrote.com/p/watch-the-60-minutes-cecot-segment

Also other sources on Bluesky, including the Internet Archive. CBS is howling "copyright."

It is not exactly NEWs in the sense that we all knew this was going on. But it is full of interviews with those tortured there.

I'm glad to hear this is happening, but I fear the next step is we're exchanging typewritten samizdat publications in public restrooms.

That’s their dream. Except now the bathrooms all have cameras.

Thank you for posting this link. What we see here is obviously a preview of the sorts of prisons Trump intends to build here in his "Unified Reich" for all of us "enemies within." Thus the Failed State becomes Auschwitz Nation.

Interestingly this *was* covered on the CBS Evening News today. Not exactly a fiery expose but more than I expected. Another segment was about some (white American) fishermen who are lost in a body of water they referred to only as "The Gulf."

Yes, the widening gulf between Donald Trump and reality.

As someone who was 10 when it happened and definitely not paying attention to 60 Minutes, I appreciate the historical context with killing the Wigand interview. Good on Alfonsi for not remaining silent on what undoubtedly was a political decision to kill the story as it was originally intended to air, too. If CBS News wants to take a hatchet to its credibility, dissenting voices from within deserve to be heard.

Dare I hope that adding Stephen Miller to the report makes it even more damning? I sure wouldn't want that guy speaking for me if I was trying to convince the public I wasn't sending people to a torture prison.

Imagine - the only way to get a story published is if it includes a soulless, dead-eyed ghoul with alopecia spewing invective at a reporter.

Their censorship machine isn't working perfectly.

There are MANY including me, who no longer consider CBS to have a legitimate "News" division. What's more, I'm making sure to tell everyone to lump CBS in with the other reich-wing trash, like Fox. because that's what it should be considered to be.

Any legitimate journalist should leave CBS ASAP - & then both literally and figuratively, burn everything on their way our, and salt the earth behind them.

At the same time, pressure needs to be applied to business media to ask the legitimate question of CBS shareholders: Why are they allowing Ellison to torch the value of their asset?

Long and short, CBS as a legitimate news org is dead, but your fatalist characterization is far from correct, Parker.

Much of the rest of this is a great piece. But just because CBS has become See BS doesn't mean legitimate news is dead.

Again, their machine isn't working perfectly. Far from it.

Very well done. Despite my hatred for the subject matter, I continued to read because I needed to know and understand the big picture. I, too, grew up with 60 minutes and rarely missed an episode. I deplore the decisions made to bend the knee. The public has a right to know what is happening in the world.

Two points:

Firstly, superb reporting by Ms. Molloy. (Bari Weiss behaves like a typical Democrat: just enough progressive camouflage to keep the ignorant-voter majority from recognizing her fascist, capitalism-über-alles heartlessness and willing Fifth Column service to the RepubliKlans and their owners.)

Secondly – no doubt due to the influence of the legions of Original Nazi war criminals the U.S. adopted as advisors and comrades-at-arms after Stalingrad made it clear Hitler would lose the war – U.S. mainstream media has deliberately been shaped into the world’s first privately owned, for-maximum-profit version of Goebbels’ Reichsministerium für Volksaufklärung und Propaganda, the infamous Reich Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. (No, this is [not] “conspiracy theory”: see https://www.carlbernstein.com/the-cia-and-the-media-rolling-stone-10-20-1977 and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CIA_influence_on_public_opinion Apropos CIA efforts to silence criticism of the Warren Report, scroll down in the latter reference to “Influencing public opinion abroad.” Nor is it anything new.)

There’s also the encounter with Warren-Report enforcement described by several members of the NYC press corps. “It was late in 1964, a post-deadline afternoon, probably on a Friday and therefore normally a time of relaxation, but Smyser had surprised us all by interrogating each of us about our reactions to the commission's report...Twenty years later, in conversations with maybe a dozen other New York City journalists -- all of whom had been working elsewhere as reporters in 1964 -- I would learn the same sorts of editorial-staff interrogations had taken place on most (if not all) U.S. dailies... https://lorenbliss-outsideagitatorsnotebook.blogspot.com/2025/10/censorship-lessons-from-nader-and.html (scroll down).

All of which adds yet another dismal dimension to the damning disclosures that prove Trump is neither accident nor anomaly but is instead the intended fulfillment of a multi-generation effort the history of which includes the political murders c. 1963-1974; the post-Stalingrad adoption of Original Nazi war criminals; the 1933 Banker's Plot to make the U.S. a satellite of Nazi Germany; and begins with the bipartisan betrayal of Reconstruction in 1878.
