I've given up on mainstream outlets to hold anything this administration does to account. They're now mouthpieces for this regime for the price of access.
I can't imagine how much worse it will get before the editors wake up and realize they've all been played. Maybe starting a war? But I suppose we have The War on Terror as an example for which they all lined up for their patriotic duty to parrot those talking points.
I'm glad we have you and other journalists on Substack who actually call out the behavior for what it is. Thank you so much.
Oh, they think they're being clever, I suppose. Their own marketing data shows that the NY Times, WaPo, NPR are overwhelmingly read/listened to by Democrats, I suspect they saw this as a bit o' fun, trusting their audience wasn't going to run out and buy Teslas on Donald Trump's recommendation.
Disgusting cronyism, to be sure, but I'm trying to figure out how this even works as marketing. Millions of normal people refuse to buy Teslas now that Elon Musk has been exposed as a right-wing loon, so the answer is to have Donald Trump buy one? Oh, that'll make sales pick right up!
The bigger picture, I think, is that they're fully bubble-encased now, the only people who exist for them are their own loony MAGA-fans. And they don't understand these people either, because they'd never buy an electric car if you held a gun to their heads.
Also: "claimed he'd buy with a personal check." LOL
Of course he lied (might as well say "He breathed") and said that "only a tiny number" of people we're refusing to buy Teslas. In that case, why worry? What's that thing we used to call it, "The Streisand Effect"? Gosh, thanks for the free advertising for the Tesla boycott, there may still be a few people who haven't heard about it.
That's the trouble with displaying Trump's antics nonstop. He takes up all the media oxygen and trying to make him look like a clown is not good enough. His criminality and corruption need always be at the forefront of any coverage.
And, what about Trump saying he will treat Tesla protesters as "Domestic terrorists"?! And "put them through hell"?! Why isn't that the headline everywhere?

If you don't buy one, you're "illegally boycotting."
Expect an email Monday morning demanding to know how many Teslas you bought this week.
Thank you for your expert analysis.

Thank you for covering this Parker.

If any other political figure pulled a stunt like this, they would be roasted by the media. Instead, it's one big shrug emoji for Trump and Elon, JFC.
Are Hakeem Jeffries, Chuck Schumer, and James Carville working as news editors now?
I am ending my NYT subscription.
I wonder if they'll give the autopilot feature a whirl...
