I know this isn't the focus of this piece, but I can't get past the idea of a pastor also being the leader of the St. Paul ICE field office. What level of cognitive dissonance must you possess purporting to be a man of God and letting federal agents harass and endanger your community?
I wonder, in the Evangelical Christian church, how much thought is given to the actual "Christianity" part? Seems to me you say the phrase "I accept Jesus Christ as my lord and savior" and you're in the club, nobody's ever going to quiz you about the teachings of Jesus afterward. In Judaism, there's a long tradition of study of - and argument about - the Torah, nothing like that exists in Evangelical Christianity. Just believe whatever your pastor says, no need to check it against any original sources, which gives the most awful people the freedom to pick and choose whatever they want from the Bible (which has anything you'd want to find, if you just go looking.)
I'm no bible expert, but I suppose "Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's" could come in handy here if you were desperately looking for a justification for letting the government kidnap your neighbors.
Regarding many aspects of technology use in general, current laws need to be expanded and/or modified and new laws created to account for all the new violations and crimes that can occur that weren’t possible in the same way before. Right now we float in a free-for-all crime playground. These legislative changes and additions have to happen and all reasonable people must insist on it. If we don’t, we lose the ability to discern truth, and the ability to report/stop/punish real crimes that harm people. Things only spiral down from there. Chaos will be freely allowed to reign. Legislation and consequences must be put in place and the sooner the better. The fact that our current administration is engaging in this type of deliberate disinformation is disgusting, infuriating, and embarrassing for them. They dirty and destroy everything they touch.
These people will always be the monsters they are, they will never change. I'm as outraged as you are, but I think we both know our outrage is delicious to them and they can never be shamed into being less monstrous. The only answer is to remove them from power through whatever legitimate democratic means we have.
Lately I've been thinking about how every day that goes by where he doesn't blow up the world is a victory. Just check them off, one by one. One less day of him, one less day of the monsters who surround him. This will end, we just need to carry one another through safely until it does end.
