I don't think we're ready as a society for what technology like this can do, if not now, in the near future. A lot of people are already too lazy to check if something they read or see an out of context video is true. If they see a video made with technology like this that confirms their priors, they'll just run with it. I think this is really going to suck.

I don't want to come off like I'm saying there's no problem, but at least in the political realm, how much will we see people "fooled" by an AI video because they WANT to be fooled? Even if they suspect it's fake, it scores some points against the opposing team, so all in good fun, who cares, right?

The past eight years have really done a number on my faith in my fellow humans, our ability to do rational thought, whether we actually believe any of the things we say we believe, whether we're really interested in the truth at all, or if all we really want is our prejudices to be fed.

Anyway, I know we're supposed to be scared by the Rise of the Machines, but for now it's the humans that scare me more.
