Parker, I love how you manage to write these pieces that feel on some level, to people like me, *extremely obvious*, but you bring the receipts and put everything in perspective. Well done, once again.
Schumer and Jeffries are useless and Dems as a whole again are not rising to the moment. We need new leadership ASAP because this tired rerun should NOT work anymore!
Not "new leadership"; a new party, a genuine party of the people, a New Deal party. Why? Because since 22 November 1963, the "Democratic" (sic) Party has been nothing more than the plausible-deniability-protected Fifth Column of the "Republican" (sic) ChristoNazi/Neoconfederate Party
I don't disagree but while we're tearing it all down we still need SOMEONE to meet the moment now and maybe gently push back against fascism, and these two ain't the ones to do it!!
I'm glad you gave due weight to just how unpopular this war is, if you can even call it that without a formal declaration. This is a point of attack that is up on a tee for Democrats, but you do get a sense that the likes of Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries are upset only because of concerns about process, not because it's unjustified or because it will be costly in every sense of the word.
I guess I understand why Democrats talk the way they do, "If I don't start by condemning the Iranian regime, I'll be accused of lovin' the Ayatollahs!" But - as Parker points out - the people making the accusations are dishonest hacks who will accuse you of Ayatollah-lovin' no matter what you say. It really would be OK to just say "This is wrong", ditch the windy preface.
And this is really George Lakoff 101, ain't it? Stop reinforcing conservative frames, it's right there in that damn book that came out 20 years ago. And STILL they don't get it? Sigh.

Each time I read one of these I get tired just thinking about the amount of research that went into it, and then I have to go lie down.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar win my votes for that...not the least because their push-back damn well isn't gentle.
I'd get behind that!

I was a teenager when 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq took place. I remember very clearly the Us vs Them dynamic. It think it’s only gotten worse.
