Been reading you for a while, but this article compelled me to subscribe.

His stance on this issue is yet another reason why I love Mamdani’s candidacy. The Democratic Party needs to wake up, pull their heads out of their collective asses, and really listen to him. Wish I lived in NYC so I could vote for him. I am simply an old straight woman with a desire to protect my gay and trans friends. It saddens and sickens me to see how willing the party has been to distance itself from support of trans human beings. Culture wars be damned. This is an issue of basic human rights!

This isn’t the first time he’s defended trans rights. I wish I could find the clip where he did it the first time he tied to economic those kitchen table issues. It was magnificent.

I link to another piece I've written about him being pro-trans in the piece :)

I always want to push that Zohran is a member of DSA, the Democratic Socialists of America. His being a socialist is tied with his stance to defend trans people and the LGBTQ community. Solidarity for a socialist is the belief that all of our struggles are intertwined and that if liberation does not come for us all, it will happen for none. We fight for all with that in mind. It is also the reason why I don't like him being lumped in with the Democratic Party. I'm a member of DSA as well and our goal is to build a new party separate from the Democrats because we are willing to stand for what they don't. My only ask is that the next time you bring him up, please note he is a member of DSA, so that maybe we can try to fix the issues by allowing ourselves to break away from the Democrats.

Ute Lemper has "Berlin Cabaret Songs" on English and original German (I have both), with most written and performed in the 1920s and the most recent being 1932 just a few months before 'dolf dropped the hammer. Been listening to both versions and flipping through books I have about "Weimar" Germany, with many photos of LGB and likely T (non-T mannish women and effeminate men do exist). Always put "Weimar" in "air-quotes" because 'dolf first used it as a slur in 1929 since the decadent Republic was formed their and their university had many records regarding sexuality studies; much like modern use of "urban", "Left Coast", "globalist", etc. However, they had the same problem we currently have of ineffective leadership, while the haters are actually DOING things and getting support (T@liban assisting traffic, serving food after US skated). Song from 2000, "As We Speak (We Turn To Stone)"; all these people talk-talk-talking about problems, but not actually fixing anything (turn to stone). "No; we're only an *awareness* foundation. We don't actually give any money to cancer research or surgeries. Would you like to buy a bracelet to show your support?"

Most people aren't monsters, and can be reached by true stories about real people if you make the effort. This is what won that day for gay marriage, not sophisticated legal arguments, but stories about two people who loved each other and wanted to get married and why should the state be preventing them? And let's remember the Democrats were AWOL on that one too, til the very end when they swooped in to take all the credit, as they always do.
