It's become very clear that many politicians and media personalities on the ostensibly left are more than ready to sacrifice trans people for expected political gain.
Abortion rights and the right to gender-affirming healthcare stand or fall together on the basis of bodily autonomy. However, Erin Burnett and other media personalities have arrived at the conclusion...
It feels very similar to abortion, where also it's been a long-term fight just to get people to actually accept that it is *healthcare*. That CNN segment is entirely coming from a place that is thinking gender affirming care is just cosmetic or a privileged indulgence.
The framing which casts trans people and gender-affirming care in a negative light is the story here and is obviously repugnant and disappointing, but how many detained migrants would even be seeking this treatment? If viewers are really so concerned about the use of taxpayer money in this regard, maybe they should start by asking why we're detaining so many migrants in the first place.
"the dramatic downward shift in public discussions about transgender people's lives over the past five years."
Huh? What is this opinion based on? The last 5 years have seen an explosion in radical gender ideology that attempts to exploit trans. The general trend has been more awareness and acceptance of people with real gender disphoria. However, if not a left-wing thing, then what is it?
Oh dude, I guess you didn't read the article. Gender-Affirming care is the law, not some radical leftist future plan to make you a woman! I guess it's sad for you that you don't get to withhold healthcare from all the people you hate.
Thanks for offering some clarity on this issue! I saw some of the outrage on Twitter this morning, and even with how much of a cesspit it's become, I managed to be shocked by how strident the outrage was. It just makes sense to me that if the government is going to be detaining people (thus keeping them from seeking out their own health care), the government has to take on the responsibility of getting them the care they need. Being outraged about this requires believing that detainees shouldn't be taken care of and/or that gender-affirming care isn't necessary.

abortion=cis women= normal=good
gender-affirming care=trans=abnormal=bad
Bigotry is so much easier than thinking!
Thank you Parker. I don't watch CNN and I'm sorry you have to.
CNN needs to engage with Erin Reed - Erin in the morning
