I had read about the incident, but until I looked at the transcript, I hadn't realized Trump was more insistent on not moving on from the issue than the reporter was. So dispiriting to see someone gesture toward (not really defend) the truth with nowhere near the forcefulness of the person asserting a lie.
Yes, that's how I read it too. Moran was almost desperate to get out of the argument, Trump wouldn't let it go.
But if you didn't want to take the standard "let's move on" approach, I don't see any alternative except to go in willing to blow up the whole interview over one question: "No, we're not gonna get to Ukraine or the economy, we're going to spend 45 minutes arguing about tattoos until the Secret Service throws me out of his office." I'd be willing to make that choice but I understand professional journalists won't ever.
This behavior's only going to escalate as the WH Press Corps is filled with friendlier and friendlier alternative media toadies, so hopefully somebody outside that circle will have the chance to take that opening.
They'll have exactly one shot, though, because afterwards the retribution for the offending outlet will be harsh and he'll never take an interview with even a potential whiff of hostility again. It had better count.
If it was me, I'd think "Who fuckin' cares if we get to the questions about Ukraine or the economy, those will all just be a firehose of lies too", but maybe that's why I don't have a job at the Washington Post.
A perfect moment to test Trump's supposed Christianity lost. The assigned gospel reading last Sunday was the story of doubting Thomas. Should have demanded that Trump bring him back in person to show the tattoos on live television to settle the matter once and for all, Jesus style.

A normal person, caught in a lie, tries to shift the conversation somewhere else. Trump revels in it.

I did not realize that Trump thinks the labels are also actual tattoos until I saw this clip. WTF?
I have all of my tattoos in Times New Roman.
You're not anyone unless your tattoos are in a fixed-width font.

Moran's first response to Trump's lie was "let's move on."

Very disturbing how Trump tried to bully the interviewer into submission. With "don't trust your lyin' eyes" logic, no less.
This seems more like "Just close your eyes and relax, I'll be done soon."
Trump is a frickin’ monster. Perfect photo (even if it is photoshopped just like the MS-13 on Abrego Garcia’s fingers).
Thank you!
