I want cis people to understand how relentless this is. Every day, they seem to put in motion a new way to attack trans people. Hundreds of bills copy-pasted with the exact same language. Bans on healthcare. Bans on access to public spaces. Bans on obtaining legal documents that don’t force us to constantly out ourselves in a virulently transphobic society. The goal is to chip and chip away to the point where it’s impossible to just exists as a trans person in America.
It’s not just politicians, it’s almost everyone. I’m a very out trans woman in obvious distress from this vicious attack on transgender American citizens. I can count on less than one hand the number of people, family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, school chums, who have reached out to me and even acknowledged this crisis in a meaningful way. The next person who tells me “…it’s going to be alright, don’t worry” I’m going to punch! Almost every trans person I know is discussing ways to leave the country. Don’t fucking point your finger a silent politicians about this unless you are speaking up yourself. Look in the mirror. What are you doing to combat this? If the answer is nothing then start by writing to/pressuring politicians to defend trans human rights.
It really would take so little courage to mount a defense of trans rights, even if they didn't want to go "full progressive" for the optics.
-Courts have determined trans health care is medically necessary, even for prisoners, and we are required to provide health care to prisoners in our custody. PS this was the same policy under Trump. PPS a total of 2 people have received surgical care under this policy. Don't fall for the rage bait, it's a distraction.
-Republicans have purposely politicized trans health care, because they know it divides people. We recognize this, but the Dem party is a big tent where we can disagree sometimes. Much like pregnancy care, we believe such choices should be left to individuals, their parents (if minors), and their doctors, not radical right politicians using who are happy to let children suffer to score political points. Consider putting down the pitchforks, learning more about what these kids and adults are dealing with, and follow the science.
Ah, but there's another election only TWO YEARS from now. See, if you're an elected Democrat, there's never a time when you can just do the right thing.
And this is all after an election that showed the average voter has the attention span of a goldfish.
Anything would be better than staying with "don't say anything that might look like support", or moving on to "maybe we should indulge their bigotry for political gain"!
Excellent reporting none of it done by the supposed "prestige press" who put more effort into fanning the hysteria in a desperate search for clicks. Sorry, New York Times, your journalism doesn't measure up to HuffPo.

Not to engage in some kind of hashtagnotallcispeople pedantry, but some of us do get it. Some of us also understand what a dark harbinger this all is.

We just lost a presidential election. There is literally no downside for democrats to declare their support in the face of relentless daily attacks.

AND poll after poll shows that advocating for trans folks has very little (if any) negative electoral consequences.
Ah, but MAYBE there MIGHT be some SMALL consequences? Too much!
By gum, you're right! Better try to court Nikki Haley voters and shill for literal war criminals instead!
C'mon, who doesn't love the Cheneys? Aside from all the people who hate the Cheneys, I mean.
Anything would be better than staying with "don't say anything that might look like support", or moving on to "maybe we should indulge their bigotry for political gain"!
I mean, to me that's a way of "treading lightly" without abandoning your principals. But Dems did/said NOTHING!
Lordy, they are despicable. The cruelty knows no limits.
We are so screwed.
