Google Horst Wessel, and do it now, because it’ll probably be a felony by the end of the month.

I don't have a broadcast license and I don't have any mergers in the works so if the Trump administration wants to fuck with me they will have to find some other way - which I am sure they will, in time. But the people who should REALLY be screaming about this shit are: 1) Rich people and 2) Major corporations. Because they have the kind of money that would attract the Extorter-in-Chief, and they just generally have more interests, more fingers in the pie, that could be used to screw with them if they step out of line. And what do we hear from them? Nothing. Because the smart thing is to just keep your head down and your mouth shut, sure, but also because he's their guy. It's all being done by a REPUBLICAN, so you'll never get a single word of complaint out of the rich.

And it's pointless to ask "What if a Democrat did it?" because everybody knows a Democratic president would never have the nerve. The president demanding a 10% take from a business deal with China, the president shutting down an 80% complete construction project or no reason, the president forcing a utility to keep a money-losing coal plant open for no reason, they can shrug all this off knowing it's not setting a precedent that any Democrat will follow.

Maybe some right wing militia will try to come after you, like they threatened to come after UNCW students who had the nerve to paint over a rock that gets painted over several times a week - https://www.whqr.org/local/2025-09-18/uncws-spirit-rock-becomes-flashpoint-for-political-tensions-threats

To say nothing of brian kilmeade wanting to force lethal injections on homeless people.

They were always going to crack down on dissent. All they needed was an excuse and Tyler Robinson gave them one.

“We at the FCC are going to enforce the public interest obligation. If there's broadcasters out there that don't like it, they can turn their license in to the FCC.”

I'm gonna claim we have a "public interest" in not encouraging armed randos to go out and murder people on the street, so enforcement action against Kilmeade and Fox is coming soon, yes?

Do I really care for Jimmy Kimmel's sake whether he gets fired or canceled or "indefinitely suspended?" No. He'll be fine. This is certainly more burdensome for the rank-and-file people who work on his show, though.

More than that, the notion that the FCC or a right-wing social media mob can threaten your job and have your employer acquiesce within days is chilling. I didn't feel great after Charlie Kirk's death. The post-assassination climate is that much more disturbing.

"We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it."

This is the thing that got him canned. And it is justified. Good riddance. What is the hell is he doing spouting that junk anyway? We hear enough of this liberal biased political garbage 24x 7. Isn't late night TV supposed to be entertainment... get some laughs... relax?

At the very least Democrats should celebrate this as Kimmel was responsible for destroying the Democrat brand every time he opened his mouth. It is more likely that Kimmel was paid by the MAGA crowd to do this dirty work.

Thinks the power of the federal government should be used to shut people up if he doesn't like what they're saying. There, you got it right from the horse's ass.

Not even bothering to make up a lie about how Kimmel broke the law or is "endangering public safety", just "I don't think he's funny, get rid of him." Typical fascist.

With Kimmel getting canned I’m seeing lots of people talking about the hypocrisy of cancel culture. To me Cancel culture is when people go out of their way to dig up old tweets, videos etc looking for dirt on somebody they don’t like in an effort to get them fired. Like if Kimmel got canceled for shit he did on the Man Show that would be cancel culture. But when a person says something that a ton of people find offensive, rude, dumb in real time and then that person is punished for it that’s not cancel culture. That is consequences for your actions.

What company policies did he violate exactly?

Nexstar Media Group Inc. said it would stop airing the show on its 32 ABC affiliates. "Mr. Kimmel's comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse," said Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar's broadcasting division, in a statement.

Private company. They make their decisions based on what is good or bad for business. Kimmel has become bad for business. Too bad so sad.

So you're admitting that Kimmel didn't violate any policies. "Bad for business" (if that were even true) is not the same as "violating policies of an employment contract." And you're still ignoring the jawboning pressure from the FCC.

I think we can all see Frank's game here, in service to MAGA he's become a full-on FCC Denialist: "FCC? What's that? Never heard of it!"

"Jawboning pressure from the FCC"? LOL.

Clearly you don't know about employment contracts for media talking heads... and also you don't know about at will employment. I guarantee that Kimmel's firing is backed by both company policies and also clauses in his contract.

Kimmel's contract was up in March, and he had 500,000 fewer viewers that Colbert that just got canned. All he had to do was to keep him mouth shut about that assassination, and yet he could not help but go to victim blaming.

He works for a private company and broke their policies. Why do you care so much? Because he is a reliable mouthpiece of your twisted, absurd, violent and deadly political cult. And he celebrated on air when Fox News fired Tucker Carlson. Consequence Culture is good karma.

Ah, Tucker Carlson. Thanks for bringing that up. Did Obama's FCC threaten Fox with the revocation of their broadcast license if they didn't fire Carlson? That's a yes or no question, if you can't answer it don't bother replying, thanks.

Do you know of the Twitter Files? The massive record of the Democrat censorship industrial complex and the attempt to implement a Ministry of Truth with that idiot Taylor Lorenz. Did you remember that it was Obama that called Bob Iger to get him to fire Rosanne Barr? Given what you did and supported, you Democrats are so void of credibility to complain about liberal media mouthpieces getting the axe, that is really hilarious to observe that lack of self-awareness or lack of intellectual honesty.
