Tragic, yes, but no surprise. What is happening -- exactly as the World Socialist Web Site has reported for at least a decade -- is that all U.S. society is now being reshaped into the zero-tolerance model that has always governed capitalism itself. Thus the mainstream media monopoly -- since the '50s the (de facto) privately owned, for-(maximum)-profit descendant of Josef Goebbels' Reichsministerium für Volksaufklärung und Propaganda (the infamous Reich Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda) -- is now becoming exactly that in de jure form as well.

It's kind of hard to know who or what to root for in this scenario. For the legitimate reporters at CBS, I don't necessarily want the network to fail. For their sake, though, I hope they're able to secure employment elsewhere and that they're able to do so on their terms.

I don't want to make the mistake of assuming everybody just falls into line. Some may actually continue doing honest journalism, do they get fired right away, or do we charge 'em with mortgage fraud first?

Clearly the capitalist economic model will no longer allow the practice of honest journalism. Tell me why I am wrong?

CBS went hard left and like all media that has gone hard left they are dying hard from crashing viewership. Lefties really don't get that these media entities are corporate entities that exist to make a profit and increase shareholder value. The reason they went left to begin with is that they saw that as a good strategy to make money and increase shareholder value. That strategy has run its course and it no longer viable.

Sorry lefties, the corporate media was never really on your ideological side... it just so happened that you got support because it made the networks more money. That trend is over. It was never real to begin with.

Yes, a corporate for-profit news entity decides - in order to maximize its profits - to produce only that news which is pleasing to the current presidential administration. A perfectly normal thing to happen under our capitalist system. Comrade Frank makes an excellent point.

And I'm sure the Comrade would be applying the same dispassionate, rigorous Marxist analysis to the situation if this was 2009 and the "ombudsman" appointed was a close friend of Barack Obama.

Friend of President hired to tell news network how to report on the president. OK or not OK? Try to stretch your imagination, try to imagine the President isn't named Trump. Or even - if you can - imagine the President is a DEMOCRAT. Still OK?

The guy who's a close friend of the most unpopular president since Herbert Hoover knows exactly what the public wants.

LOL. Interesting given Trump's polled approval rating is much higher that was Obama in his second term, and Joe Biden for his entire political life.
