I mean, I'd say if you like to eat M&Ms you could call yourself a fan, but if you passionately care about the brand iconography you should probably call yourself "pathetic"
I was trying to comment on the fact that Green and Blue now have white arms instead of.... and then I got caught up in what to call the previous color. Is it appropriate to say "flesh colored" when not all flesh is that color? But I have no idea what else to call it. I guess it's tan or beige? But I'm pretty sure the intension was for us to see it as "flesh colored," right? Then again why the hell would M&Ms have fleshy appendages? I need to stop thinking about this.
I thought about that before using it, but then concluded that it was probably okay because it's clear that it was made that color because it was supposed to look like skin, if that makes sense? Anyway, it's weird thinking about candy with people arms.
All I want to say about that Coke video is that until about 30 seconds in when I saw the first non-white face, it gave me a creepy sense of Tomorrow Belongs to Me. But I guess it's just the early 1970s aesthetic.
Like any big company, Mars doesn't make business decisions based on altruism or being "woke". They understand that 99 percent of candy buyers could not care less about any of this. If you like M&M's you'll buy them. If you don't you won't. The Mars family doesn't care one way or another either. They are already well up in the one percent.
The right doesn't care about of this all they want is to stir things up and they know their supporters quite well why do think they use short catch phrases? Woke....easy to remember cancel culture....short easy to remember......snowflakes.....again same thing. Small minds need simple instructions nothing else or the message gets confusing.
Maybe you're already aware of it, but there is a persistent twitter meme about Green being a trans woman because in the previously animated ads that ran before the mid-90s CGI refresh, none of the m&ms had any particularly obvious gender signifiers (aside from voice, I suppose) and so were all presumed male. Then the CGI Green debuted and suddenly, like Ms. Pac-Man's bow, we have m&ms with intentional gender signifiers (leaving a lack of signifier to default to male, I suppose).
I'm guessing that meme got crossed with Tucker's distress at the femme&ms being redesigned with less sex object signifiers? I guess? This whole thing has already made me think about Tucker Carlson's sexual preferences way more than I ever ever ever wanted to...
I know this is far from relevant, but Orange didn't debut in 2010, the mascot was around by the late 90s. It looks like 2010 is when he became affiliated w Pretzel M&Ms
So the Rolling Stone is "right wing media"?? Obviously not.
"Right-wing media personalities are absolutely desperate to find things to feign outrage over". So is the left-wing media. If you doubt that then just read this article. 10 seconds worth of research would have shown that the push back is much more broad. But instead the author just couldn't pass on the opportunity to make a hypocrite and fool of herself in the name of biases.
Journalism is dead. All we have left is political ideologues and hacks...
I take it that you're referring to EJ Dickson's piece? The one that was clearly written tongue-in-cheek with a jokey headline? Something something something, 10 seconds worth of research...
This is funny. The authors outrage over right wing outrage over advertising is also capitalism, lining her pocket this time. Why don't all of you just live your lives without bothering people....
Yeah, I don't think so. They are trying to, unnecessarily be more inclusive. AKA woke. Whatever that means to you. I say unnecessary because they already have: dumb, silly, brawny, sexy female, smart/nerdy female, smart/nerdy male. Now sexy female is...what? Plain girl. If this was really just a refresh, they would have tweaked all of them. They didn't, cause it's not. They singled out the, "sexy" female, because why? Women can't be sexy? As a cartoonist I have to tell you, this is dumb. They are anthropomoresized, by the very nature of what they are, they are over the top, exaggerated characters, you can't have a nondescript plain character like this, it doesn't make any sense. My $.02
If companies are trying to make inclusive commercials, why aren't there lots of Hispanics, Arabs, Asians, and Indians in commercials instead of just blacks and European Americans?
Visitors from other countries turn on American television and surmise blacks must make up 50% of the population by how often they are in commercials.
First,so sorry Black actors getting work in commercials bothers you so much. Second,I doubt very seriously that many ( or any) visitors from other countries spend much time analyzing American TV commercials. Imagine visiting a foreign country and instead of seeing famous landmarks and eating in famous restaurants, shopping for souvenirs and the like, you spend all your time staring at your hotel TV watching commercials! Or is that what you do on vacation?
First, I noticed how popular the show Lucifer was in many European countries and second, I got grilled in Paris by people who wanted to know if we liked Trump, because they did and were very cynical about politics. Ya just never know!
My favorite part of the Mars press release: "Fans will also notice an added emphasis on the ampersand to more prominently demonstrate...."
Fans? Really? Are their people who consider themselves a part of the M&M fandom, and would notice things like this?
I mean, I'd say if you like to eat M&Ms you could call yourself a fan, but if you passionately care about the brand iconography you should probably call yourself "pathetic"
A cousin of mine used to have a spare room in her house 1/2 filled with M&M merch.
They exist. (I'm not 100% sure, but I think the mania ended when she had kids to raise.)

Back then "woke capitalism" (or the 1970s equivalent) meant pandering to hippies, who were predominantly white in the prevailing American mindset.

Ah! You're right! I'll add a correction to that the next chance I get.

Nice try but the tone doesn't change the message. Just because they weren't ranting like lunatics doesn't make their points less valid.
“Nice try?” The entire piece was sarcastic. Just went right over your head.
When outrage is all you want that's all you'll ever see comedy is taking a beating due to all these offended people
Your comment didn't make any more sense the second time you posted it. Did you subscribe just to hate-read Parker?
I spent 10 seconds creating an account so I could leave a post on an article that was in my feed. How are you confused by this??
Hey, if that's how you want to spend your time, go for it. Like someone once said, you don't really need to comment on everything.
Being triggered by hypocrisy is one of my character flaws. Having nothing better to do at the moment, I let it get the best of me.
Let the products sell themselves! Fuck advertising, commercial psychology!
Psychological methods to sell should be destroyed!

And...? Good thing that inflation is a thing, otherwise that would have been $.01.
Not buying it.

I see that you missed the entire point of the piece. Genuinely impressive.

LMFAO! The famously beloved-by-the-French Donald Trump. Yeah, sure, tell me another.
If they were Le Pen fans, it's totally possible. 😐
